Until May 5, the Sala Recoletos is presenting the exhibition "Chagall: A cry for freedom", which offers an in-depth look at the work of the artist Marc Chagall (1887-1985) through the historical events that marked his life.
The result of a collaboration between La Piscine - Musée d'Art et d'Industrie André Diligent (Roubaix), Fundación MAPFRE and the Musée National Marc Chagall in Nice, the exhibition pays tribute to the artist's work, contextualizing each piece in relation to the historical events that Chagall faced and the positions he adopted in the face of them.
From his childhood in Belarus to his settlement on the Mediterranean coast, Chagall lived through two world wars and an exile, which is reflected in his extensive artistic legacy.
The proposal, curated by Meret Meyer and Ambre Gauthier, offers the first comprehensive reading of Chagall's work from the perspective of his unconditional idealism, unshakable belief in universal peace and sociopolitical commitment.
Through this exhibition, the public will have the opportunity to appreciate the work of this artist in a new and revealing way, discovering how his art also serves as a powerful testimony to the times in which he lived.
