Traditional summer festivals in Madrid: San Cayetano, San Lorenzo and La Paloma

Between 7 and 15 August, Madrid celebrates the Fiestas of San Cayetano, on 7 August; San Lorenzo, on 10 August, and the Virgen de la Paloma, on 15 August.

On August 7, in the area of the Rastro and Embajadores, takes place the festivity of San Cayetano, which marks the beginning of the celebrations. The streets and balconies are decorated with manila shawls, paper garlands and flowers in honor of the saint. There are also musical and cultural performances in Cascorro square, as well as religious acts in the church of San Cayetano, one of the great emblems of Madrid's baroque architecture, whose façade has been attributed to Churriguera.

Continuing with the festivities, on August 10, the San Lorenzo festivities are held in the Lavapiés neighborhood. On this occasion, music, culture and gastronomy combine to pay homage to the saint and the religious acts take place in the small church built in his name in the 17th century.

The August festivities culminate on August 15 with the festival dedicated to the Virgen de la Paloma, in La Latina, one of the most typical neighborhoods of Madrid. The program of festivities includes various activities that take place on Plaza de la Paja and its surroundings, the Toledo street, Plaza de las Vistillas, and the streets near the parish of the Virgen de la Paloma, in the square of the same name. During these days, regional dances, zarzuela, pasodobles, chotis and shawls contests, live music, children's shows and Madrilenian gastronomic tastings are organized.
