Music at Holy Week in the Region of Madrid

From 1st to 9th April, different concerts will be held in different municipalities in the region so that locals and visitors alike can enjoy the traditional sounds of Holy Week.

The Region of Madrid's programme offers a Holy Week full of traditions, gastronomy and cultural events for all audiences, ranging from early music concerts in the region's most beautiful churches to a series of popular saetas.

Early music with a religious theme will fill two of the churches with the most history and heritage in the city: the church of Perpetuo Socorro and the pontifical basilica of San Miguel. In addition, the Real Coliseo Carlos III de San Lorenzo de El Escorial will also host concerts, all with free admission.

For its part, the Teatro Auditorio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial will host two world premieres: on 1st April a recital by La Grande Chapelle and on 8th April the public will be able to enjoy a concert by Fahmi Alqhai and the Accademia del Piacere, with a programme based on the sacred compositions of Monteverdi.

The cycle of saetas consists of three recitals by Antonia Contreras, Curro Piñana and María Mezcle from 5th to 7th April in the garden of the Casa Museo Lope de Vega. The courtyard of the Teatro de la Abadía and the Real Coliseo de Carlos III in San Lorenzo de El Escorial are two of the venues where we can enjoy music at Holy Week.
