MADRID IN TWO DAYS
Do you know Madrid? If so, remember your moments and feel them again. If it is your first time, immerse yourself in new and unforgettable experiences.
We invite you to start your route today, introducing you to the Botanical Garden, which is in the surroundings of the Prado Museum. Plants of all kinds and origins will liven up this short break before continuing on to the next destination.
On your way out, you can reach the Cibeles Fountain, goddess that has become a symbol of the city and where one of the most international soccer teams celebrates its triumphs: Real Madrid. A few meters away you will see the Puerta de Alcalá. Take the opportunity to take some pictures before entering the Retiro Park, a real "green lung" in the center of the city. Walk along its countless paths, sit on a terrace or take a boat on the large lake. You will love the experience.
For lunch, what better option than one of the restaurants around the Retiro Park, with its traditional and avant-garde cuisines.
We advise you to start the tour near the Cibeles Fountain. You can take the opportunity to contemplate the Puerta de Alcalá, have a coffee at the Círculo de Bellas Artes and take some pictures of the Metrópolis building.
Continue along Gran Vía, the cultural and commercial heart of the city, surrounded by cinemas, theaters and stores. Don't wait and do some shopping.
In the evening a walk through the Plaza de España, from where you can reach the main sights of Madrid such as the Plaza de Oriente, the Royal Palace, the Sabatini Gardens, the Almudena Cathedral, the Calle Mayor, next to its Plaza or Puerta del Sol.
For dinner you can have a snack at the San Miguel market and stroll around the Plaza de la Villa, a charming square from the time of the Habsburgs.
Start the day feeling the city as you walk along emblematic streets such as Alcalá. Soon you will reach the Paseo del Arte (Paseo del Prado) where you will find three of the best art galleries in the world: the Prado Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and the Reina Sofia Art Museum. Perhaps you will tear a couple of hours out of your day in Madrid to see some of their most important works such as Velázquez's "Las Meninas" or Caravaggio's "Santa Catalina" and you can stop to contemplate Picasso's "El Guernica", among many other pieces, in each of them.
For the afternoon we suggest the Malasaña neighborhood, on the other side of the Gran Vía. Located between Chueca and Argüelles, this area was the center of the so-called movida madrileña in the 80's and witnessed the resistance of the only soldiers who rose up against the Napoleonic troops. Stroll around the neighborhood and get lost among the vintage or urban style stores that populate Malasaña.
This area also has some very characteristic cafes where you can stop for a mid-afternoon snack, enjoy your coffee!
Now, with your batteries recharged, it's time to continue appeasing your shopping voracity. Strolling through Chueca you will find many boutiques, decoration stores, delicatessens such as oils, wines, cheeses or chocolates. Chueca is an area between the streets Fuencarral and Barquillo, which in the 90s definitely became the gay district of Madrid.
In this area you will definitely see a place that is to your liking for dinner and what better farewell to Madrid than a drink under the stars? The views from the exclusive terrace of the Room Mate Oscar hotel will be some of the best memories you'll take away with you.
