SIERRA DEL RINCÓN
The Sierra del Rincón was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in June 2005. With truly spectacular landscapes, a great variety of ecosystems and being an example of conservation of its biodiversity, it becomes a must-see place.
The Sierra del Rincón is divided into five municipalities: Horcajuelo de la Sierra, Montejo de la Sierra, La Hiruela, Prádena del Rincón and Puebla de la Sierra. All of them maintain the essence of the mountain villages. 90% of the area is protected, highlighting the beautiful Montejo beech forest, one of the southernmost in Europe. You can visit it, but you must take into account that this visit is limited and you will need a pass.
In La Sierra del Rincón you will also find villages with great cultural, artistic and architectural value. Buildings such as the flour mill of La Hiruela, dating from the eighteenth century and still in perfect working order, the horseshoeing colts of Montejo de la Sierra or the Church of Santo Domingo de Silos in Prádena del Rincón stand out.
If you want to know more about the lifestyle of the Sierra, visit the ethnographic museums of Horcajuelo de la Sierra and La Hiruela. Here you will find souvenirs donated by the locals themselves, such as farm implements, family clothing or livestock tools.
And in the middle of a valley we find one of the most beautiful places in this mountain range: Puebla de la Sierra, through which runs the stream of the same name and on whose banks stand centuries-old oak trees. Be sure to visit the Molino de Abajo or El Valle de los Sueños, an original project that gathers 18 sculptures located on a route of 1.3 km.
This region gives you thousands of possibilities to practice all kinds of active tourism. Routes from La Hiruela, from Horcajuelo, from Puebla .... and at any time of the year. "The path of the silver mines" "the path through the centenary oak trees" or "the path through the trades of life" are some examples of the possibilities offered by the area. There are also those designed for travelers with disabilities, such as, for example, the "Senda del Agua".
