FRESNEDILLAS DE LA OLIVA
The ash trees, which give origin to the name of the village, are located in the southern area and must have been part of ancient forests of this species, some places have special ecological value as the meadow of Fuentelámparas. Enjoy its environment by hiking, horseback riding or cycling. The Lunar Museum and the route of La Puente are a must.
The main example of the artistic heritage of Fresnedillas is the Parish Church of San Bartolomé, built in the sixteenth century and with ashlar masonry reinforced by buttresses. It has a nave, a large semicircular arch and a wooden roof as well as a belfry with two sections. The choir of the church is located high and is supported by columns of the seventeenth century.
In the proximities of the urban nucleus also two forts can be appreciated that reflect the combats registered in the area during the Spanish Civil War.
A visit to the Lunar Museum. Inaugurated in 2010 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, a mission in which the space station located in the town participated. The museum is dedicated to the space missions of NASA and the former USSR. Among other curiosities you can see the first human footprint on the lunar surface, a model of a space capsule, astronaut suits, pieces belonging to Neil Armstrong and much more.
La Puente, a circular route of medium/low difficulty. Starting from the Lunar Museum, the path runs along a branch of the Cañada Real Leonesa Oriental. Enjoy the scenery, a mixed forest of holm oaks, junipers and ash trees or refresh yourself in the abundant streams that you will find along the way.
