GUADARRAMA BASIN
The park is located in the Sierra de Guadarrama, between the provinces of Madrid and Segovia. Glacial lakes, high mountain landscapes and large pine forests make the area an attraction for the practice of active tourism such as hiking, mountaineering or winter sports.
A good way to get to know this protected area created in 2013 is the program of guided tours "Meeting Point" in which you can learn about the values of the park in four different routes, you can even move in a bus that runs through the park in its peripheral part and has guides in English and Spanish.
San Lorenzo de El Escorial is home to an urban complex of immeasurable architectural beauty that ranges from the majestic Monastery, to any building in its historic center. Mount Abantos, the Chair of Philip II or the Valley of the Fallen are areas where you can enjoy a day of history, culture and nature.
Guadarrama is a place full of natural resources known since ancient times. The Roman road that went to the Fuenfría used to pass through here. But one of the most important places, recognized as a protected area of the region of Madrid, is the natural monument called La Peña del Arcipreste de Hita. Around it, towns of great natural beauty and typical mountain architecture such as Collado Villalba, Moralzarzal, Collado Mediano, Los Molinos or Alpedrete. From any of these points we can make the most varied and interesting routes.
Roman remains
Heading towards Navacerrada, we find the Roman road between Cercedilla and the port of Fuenfría. Cerdedilla, in the heart of the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park, is a beautiful mountain village surrounded by varied vegetation and natural pools. The Fuenfría Pass is a well-known crossroads for hiking enthusiasts. Near this port are the stations of Navacerrada and Valdesquí and a little further the old station of Cotos. Come to Navacerrada, one of the most important in the mountains and walk through this wonderful village of cobbled streets and surrounded by mountains. Continuing south we reach Becerril, a tourist reference point in the region of Madrid. The granite rock formations, pastures and livestock are part of a set that deserves to be enjoyed. In El Boalo you can go hiking and recreate in beautiful viewpoints or touring its churches and its centenary chapel, the most famous of the mountains.
The star product of the gastronomy of the Sierra de Guadarrama is the meat with Denomination of Origin. Enjoy this and many other products in the numerous steakhouses that you will find while touring its corners.
