Less than an hour from the capital, the Region of Madrid offers countless alternatives; full of history, traditions, gastronomy, outdoor activities, routes to discover, views of the capital like you never imagined and of course a leisure offer at all hours, so that we can fully enjoy ourselves.

At the foot of the Guadarrama mountain range is San Lorenzo de El Escorial, a town that combines nature and history. Don't miss its majestic Royal Monastery and Basilica, considered the eighth wonder of the world and inscribed on the World Heritage List.

You can eat in any of the restaurants in the municipality and try the meats of the Guadarrama mountains.

Another option is to visit Alcalá de Henares, a city full of history and tradition and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Its University and the house where one of the most illustrious Spanish writers of our literature, Miguel de Cervantes, was born are a must.

Don't miss Aranjuez, also a World Heritage Site, whose harmony of natural spaces, history and art will invite you to visit it on more than one occasion to discover its Royal Palace, its gardens or the Museum of Falúas.

Or head for Chinchón, a municipality with a picturesque and unique Plaza Mayor, the setting for films, which, together with its historic quarter, was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1974.

Did you know that in Buitrago de Lozoya there is an interesting collection of works by Picasso? It also has a walled enclosure dating from the 11th century.

All these towns are less than an hour from Madrid. They are well connected to the capital by road, train or bus, and you can enjoy nature, a varied gastronomic offer and an interesting day out of the capital.
