On 22 April, Madrid will host the 25th edition of the Laureus World Sports Awards, an event that recognises the world's best sportsmen and women in seven categories.
This tribute to the best athletes and teams of 2023 will take place at the Palacio de Cibeles, one of Madrid's most emblematic buildings.
Within its seven categories, all kinds of famous athletes and teams from the international scene have been nominated, such as Lionel Messi, Novak Djokovic, Aitana Bonmatí, Sha'Carri Richardson, Max Verstappen or Salma Paralluelo, among others.
The Region of Madrid is hosting the event for the first time due to its close links with sport, as the home of four La Liga football clubs and the World Rugby Sevens Series, as the venue for the final leg of the cycling’s Vuelta a España, the Madrid Open, one of the most coveted clay court tennis titles of the year, the Spanish Open golf tournament and the Madrid Marathon.
Madrid takes over from Paris, the city that hosted these trophies last year, as the venue for these prestigious awards, which distinguish values such as effort, merit, excellence, self-improvement, courage and helping others.
