Tourism in Madrid
Easter Week 2024 is here and the Region of Madrid is preparing to offer a unique experience full of tradition, passion and culture.
From the bustling city of Madrid to picturesque villages such as Alcalá de Henares, Morata de Tajuña, Chinchón and San Lorenzo de El Escorial, the region offers a variety of activities and celebrations to suit all tastes.
In Madrid capital, visitors can enjoy impressive processions through the historic streets, such as the emblematic procession of the Cristo de los Alabarderos, which passes through Plaza Mayor or the solemn procession of Silencio on Palm Sunday.
On the other hand, Alcalá de Henares, a city declared a World Heritage Site, is full of excitement with its religious processions and concerts, while Morata de Tajuña once again stages its Living Passion, declared to be of tourist interest in 2001.
Chinchón, famous for its Plaza Mayor and its impressive views, dresses up for Easter Week with the Living Passion of Christ. In San Lorenzo de El Escorial, solemnity and devotion mark these festivities, with Good Friday standing out for the celebration of the processional parade of the Holy Burial and Silence.
However, Semana Santa (Easter Week) in the Region of Madrid goes beyond these main destinations, with other towns such as Carabaña, Daganzo de Arriba, Parla, Torrejón de Ardoz, Móstoles and Villarejo de Salvanés offering unique activities and celebrations that reflect the cultural and religious diversity of the region.
