The year 2024 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Antonio Palacios, one of the most important figures in the history of Spanish architecture in the first half of the 20th century and architect of Metro Madrid.
His mark on the metro is still felt today in many of its elements, such as the logo, the totems, the entrances, the stations of the first line or the pavilions.
But his architectural legacy in Madrid goes beyond this. He was also the architect of emblematic works such as the Palacio de Comunicaciones, the Casa Palacio Palazuelo, the Banco Español del Río de la Plata, the headquarters of the Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid and the Antiguo Hospital de Jornaleros, among other outstanding projects.
Since his childhood in Porriño, Pontevedra, he has been immersed in the world of blueprints, tools and building materials, thanks to his father's trade, which has greatly influenced his professional career.
What few people know about him is that, in addition to expressing his creativity through architecture, he also had a facet as a draftsman and painter, producing numerous watercolors, paintings and sketches.
