Holy Week 2023 in the Region of Madrid

 

The Region of Madrid invites you to discover the tourist and cultural attractions of Holy Week in the region between 1st and 9th April.

Holy Week in the capital stands out for its diversity of cultural offerings, which means that both locals and visitors can enjoy celebrations of regional tourist interest, while tasting a traditional torrija or enjoying a concert of early music in one of Madrid's most important churches.

The special attraction and uniqueness of the eight festivities of Holy Week in Madrid have led them to be declared of Regional Tourist Interest. These are Easter Week in Carabaña, Daganzo de Arriba, Móstoles, Morata de Tajuña, Parla, San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Torrejón de Ardoz and Villarejo de Salvanés, as well as two others declared of National Tourist Interest: Alcalá de Henares and Chinchón. The most important religious celebrations and events in the Region of Madrid take place on Domingo de Ramos, the processions and passions of Jueves Santo and Viernes Santo, as well as the tamborrada on Domingo de Resurrección. 

The Region of Madrid's Holy Week programme offers a wide variety of temporary art exhibitions, family activities and workshops and a series of concerts and saetas in different venues in the region so that locals and visitors can enjoy the most popular sounds and traditions of Holy Week. In addition, there will be a special focus on early music with a religious theme, which will fill two of the city's churches with the most history and heritage.

Finally, it is worth highlighting the wide gastronomic offer of typical Easter Week products, ranging from the potaje de vigilia (stew) to typical sweets such as torrijas, pasioncitos de Morata de Tajuña, hornazo de Chinchón or penitentes de Alcalá.
