Markets in Madrid this holiday season

Christmas is by definition a time for shopping, gifts and special shops, details, crafts, traditions and charm. For this reason, at this time of year there are many markets in Madrid that, in different formats, offer their best products.

This is the case of the Mercadillo del Gato, a classic with tradition in our city. For the occasion, this popular pop-up market (a market that appears and disappears on certain dates) offers up to 60 different exhibitors from 16 December.

At the Mercadillo del Gato you can find fashion, crafts, collectibles and special editions, accessories, toys, cosmetics and decoration, among many others. The ephemeral location of this new edition of the market is number 13 Gran Vía in Madrid. One of the hallmarks of this market is to offer unique experiences in each edition, changing the spaces and the setting to always be a surprise. On this occasion, you can enjoy its products until 5 January.

Another market option at this time of year is the Mercado de Las Ranas, a proposal by the Asociación de comerciantes del Barrio de las Letras, which also organises Christmas editions. Tradition dictates that, on the first Saturday of every month, the area takes on a commercial air similar to that of famous international markets such as Camden Town or Portobello.

And a new addition to the new Plaza de España is the La Navideña flea market, which repeats until 8 January and includes a 450m2 ice rink to liven up an evening of shopping. There will also be street entertainment, with parades, theatre shows and entertainment for the little ones.

This Christmas, experience the Madrid of markets!
