Essential autumn exhibitions


With the new season, new exhibitions are coming. In the list below, we propose some of the most interesting ones. Let's start!

"La Máquina Magritte"

A journey through the magical world of Belgian artist René Magritte through more than 90 paintings as well as photographs and home movies made by Magritte himself. One of the great representatives of surrealism and the great painters of the 20th century at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid. This first major retrospective of Magritte in a public museum can be visited until January 30, 2022.

"Vivian Suter"
Her work approaches abstract painting and artistic improvisation. The artist lives in the Guatemalan jungle and the natural environment, nature and color intervene in all her canvases. Organized by the Reina Sofia Museum, the Community of Madrid collaborates in this exhibition that can be visited at the Velazquez Palace in the Retiro Park until January 10, 2022.

"Goya's Women".
60 engravings by Francisco de Goya from three major series: the disasters of war, whims and what sacrifice, with women as the protagonist and the different female models immortalized in his time, from Agustina of Aragon to prostitutes. The exhibition is part of the temporary exhibitions of the Itiner Network and can be visited free of charge until December 26.

"The human image: art, identities and symbolism".
A journey through time and cultures with selected pieces and works from different periods, from 11,000 years ago to audiovisual works of contemporary art. The protagonist, the representation of the human being.
There are guided and family tours of the exhibition.
The exhibition has been organized in collaboration with the British Museum and can be visited at CaixaForum Madrid until January 16, 2022.

"Timeless Architecture".
A selection of eleven masters and natural materials, building techniques and trades typical of traditional architecture and urban planning, building trades and the conservation of cultural heritage. Various activities and workshops have been organized for all audiences to promote knowledge of these traditional techniques. The exhibition can be visited free of charge until October 3 at CentroCentro.

The Regional Archaeological Museum in Alcalá de Henares, hosts an exhibition of photographs from the photographic archive of the German Archaeological Institute in Madrid. An exhibition of archaeological photography that shows the beauty of our archaeological heritage through Prehistory, Roman Spain or the Middle Ages, and pays tribute to the photographers who were part of this historic institution, one of the most deeply rooted foreign institutions in our country. It can be visited until January 9, 2022. Admission is free.

Treasures from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Family Collection
A selection of 20 works from the collection of Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza: sculptures from the Italian and German Renaissance, pieces of Dutch and German gold and silver work from the 16th and 16th centuries, and oil paintings from various artistic schools of the 17th century, among other works. A special exhibition that can be visited until January 23, 2022 at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza.

"Madrid 1862-1920: Galdós, Story of a New Urban Landscape"
Until November 14th, the exhibition "Madrid 1862-1920: Galdós, Story of a New Urban Landscape" will be on display at the Madrid History Museum, free of charge, and can be enjoyed through a virtual immersion experience in the history of our city. Through paintings, photographs, postcards and posters, visitors are taken on a journey through Madrid's past. 

"Marilyn Monroe: 50 photo shoots by Milton H. Greene"
The traveling exhibition "Marilyn Monroe: 50 photographic sessions by Milton H. Greene" will tour Madrid's main halls and cultural centers to show visitors snapshots of the iconic actress snapshots of the iconic actress. From March 15 to December 20, you will be able to contemplate the result of the photographic sessions with Milton H. Greene, one of the most important fashion and film photographers of the time.

"The Carmen Sanchez Beques. The ultimate lesson"
"The Carmen Sánchez Beques. The ultimate lesson", is the exhibition of the Museo Nacional del Prado that pays tribute to the generosity of Carmen Sánchez García, a woman dedicated to teaching who actively contributed to the Friends of the Prado Museum Foundation since 2003. Among the works bequeathed are Berruguete's 'Allegory of Temperance', María Blanchard's 'La Boloñesa', Pedro de Campaña's 'Self-portrait', and Antonio Gisbert's 'Los Comuneros Padilla, Bravo and Maldonado on the scaffold'. You can visit it until October 24.

Reborn. Yuniel Delgado Castillo
The latest paintings by Cuban artist Yuriel Delgado Castillo, a visual artist currently living in Madrid, can be visited at La Neomudéjar Avant-Garde Arts Center until October 10. This is an exhibition where the artist makes a visceral retrospective in which he reflects on his own corporeality and on the human being, his inner self and the beyond. A journey through feelings, emotions and thoughts.

"Archaeological Treasures of Romania".
The most ambitious international exhibition commissioned by the National Museum of Romanian History in the last decades. This exhibition displays up to 800 archaeological objects that tell the history of the Romanian region from the 8th century B.C. to the last Germanic invasions of the area occurred in the 7th century A.D. It can be visited at the National Archaeological Museum from October 1, 2021 to February 27, 2022.

 "Tornaviaje. Ibero-American art in Spain".
Exhibition of the works of art that arrived from America to Europe, and especially to Spain, during the Modern Age. Around one hundred works of art that bear witness to this rich artistic heritage, among which the conquest of Tenochtitlán is narrated, as well as religious devotions of many different kinds, household furnishings and an inventory of the commercial voyages of yesteryear. It will be on view at the Prado Museum from October 5, 2021 to February 13, 2022. 

"The Garden of Delights".
A journey through the works of the SOLO Collection and a different way of approaching the famous triptych by the Flemish painter Bosch. New technologies come by the hand of 15 artists from around the world who express their approach to the work with sound art, 3D animation or artificial intelligence. The exhibition will be on view at Matadero Madrid's Nave 16 from October 7, 2021 to February 27, 2022. 

Dialecto CA2M

Over 400 works by 250 artists from the collections of Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo of the region of Madrid, a large part of which had not been shown before. It is the most ambitious exhibition of the center. It can be visited from October 21 to January 9, 2022, in Móstoles.

Meet Vincent Van Gogh

The only official exhibition of Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. A three-dimensional digital experience in which you can touch and feel approaching the life, work and secrets of one of the great geniuses of painting of all time. Art in 360º at Espacio Ibercaja Delicias Madrid, from September 30.

Una historia de amor y guerra. Japón

A selection of more than 200 works that covers Japanese art from the 17th to the 20th century. For the first time in Madrid, one of the most prestigious collections in the world, the Bartolone Gobbi Collection, at CentroCentro (until January 30, 2022).

Belkis Ayón. Colografías.

First retrospective in Europe of this great Cuban artist. Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía is showing a selection of 50 collographies from the short trajectory of her work, which can be visited from November 17 to April 18, 2022.

Microbiología: Explorando más allá de lo visible.

Exhibition celebrating 75 years of the Spanish Society of Microbiology, at the National Museum of Natural Sciences, to promote knowledge of microorganisms and the important role they play in our lives. It can be visited at the MNCN until December 8.
