If you are thinking about your next getaway, we propose you to visit two towns without leaving the Region of Madrid. In addition to pampering your palate with its gastronomy, or enjoying the beauty of its surroundings, you can visit two key pieces of its heritage: on the one hand the Palace of Infante Don Luis in Boadilla del Monte and on the other the Castle of Villaviciosa de Odón.
Boadilla del Monte
Come to the town of Boadilla del Monte, just separated from the capital by the Casa de Campo.
If you are looking to enjoy nature, you can do it with family thanks to the various activities proposed on its website. Although if you want something more specific don't miss the routes programmed by the Monte de Boadilla. Discover the vegetation route, a circular path in which you can see the willows and ash trees surrounding the Arroyo de la Fresneda, as well as other plant species; or the fauna route, whose itinerary will allow you to see the most common animal species in the area; or the cycle route that will allow you to enjoy the splendour of the surroundings; and even the path Arroyo de la Fresneda, with which you will discover the characteristics of the Mediterranean forest, the riverside forest and the fauna and flora associated with both ecosystems.
There is one more, the landscape route, with which you can contemplate the Mount of Boadilla but from a majestic place, the Palace of the Infante Don Luis. This building was built by the own Infante (brother of Carlos III) to Ventura Rodríguez in 1764, and is the result of the transformation of an earlier one, called the Palace of the Two Towers.
Of course in the town there are other samples of historical heritage like the church of San Cristóbal or the Carmelite Convent of the Incarnation, so don't think twice and discover Boadilla del Monte.
If you'd like to enjoying the gastronomy of the locality you can do it in a very special place, the Antiguo Convento de Boadilla del Monte, an old convent of the Barefoot Carmelite Order, founded in 1674 and which after its restoration has become one of the most delightful places to surprise the most demanding palates.
Villaviciosa de Odón
If you still want more, just 15 kilometres from Boadilla del Monte, next to the river Guadarrama is located the town of Villaviciosa de Odón.
The municipality in its totality is included in the Regional Park Curso Medio del Río Guadarrama y su Entorno, a space protected by the Region of Madrid, so the beauty of the zone is more than guaranteed. There are many and varied proposed routes, with which you will know the most important environmental values of the area.
It's worth to look at the historic heritage of Villaviciosa de Odón, in which highlights its 'Castle', current headquarters of the Historical Archive of the Spanish Air Force. This is the oldest and most unique building of the town, dating from the beginning of the fifteenth century at the initiative of the first Counts of Chinchón.
Don't leave the town without trying some of the delicious 'tapas' (snacks) offered by the different places located in the historic centre that range from traditional cuisine to more elaborate proposals; as well as the culinary offer of a charming restaurant like the Café del Infante, in the historic House Palace Manuel de Godoy.
You already know it, in addition to the variety of options to enjoy both locations, you have a compelling reason to do it: Palace of the Infante Don Luis in Boadilla or the Castle of Villaviciosa de Odón... the choice is yours!
