Our weekly getaway takes us through the northern part of the region through three locations with charm. Garganta de los Montes, Gargantilla del Lozoya and Pinilla de Buitrago will surprise you with its rich heritage and the beauty of its landscapes. Come with us and discover these special places of the Region of Madrid.

We started our getaway by the Madrid town of Garganta de los Montes, located in the extreme northwest of the Region of Madrid, it is immersed in the Upper Valley of Lozoya, one of the most special areas of our region.

A little less than 80 kilometres separate the capital city of this town, which is formed by another population centre called 'El Cuadrón', with a pleasant climate, together with its location, have led the beautiful surroundings, which has a predominantly rural character.

To know its history and traditions, you only have to stroll through its streets where you see clear signs of its outstanding heritage. We highlight, among other points of interest, the parish church of St. Peter the Apostle, the Church of Our Lady of Pilar, the hermitage of Our Lady of the Meadows, the Colts shoeing of Garganta and El Cuadrón, or the viewpoint next to the clinic El Cuadrón, from which you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic of the Valley of Lozoya.

But if what you like is to perform activities in contact with nature, you can also enjoy thanks to their routes, which allow you to discover the variety of flora and fauna. In this link you will find route maps and virtual flights of different paths.

From here, a few kilometres separate us from our next destination: Gargantilla del Lozoya and Pinilla de Buitrago, two villages that form one single municipality.

With a similar and parallel history, the origins of Gargantilla del Lozoya dating back to the foundation by the neighbours of Garganta de los Montes due either to a escape from a deadly epidemic or not wanting to pay the corresponding taxes. Formerly was composed of a third population centre called Santiago disappeared today. A curious fact is that here took place the ceremony of proclamation of Juana 'the Beltraneja' as Crown Princess of the throne of Castile.

Do not miss their parish churches; in Gargantilla of San Benito Abad, and in Pinilla of the Holy Trinity. But without doubt, one of its attractions are its beautiful landscapes between the Riosequillo reservoir and the Cerro de la Cruz.

Travel the distance that separates the two nuclei through a pleasant stroll that you can do on foot, bicycle or horse through the 'Camino de la Ermita de Santiago', from which you will enjoy spectacular views.

As you can see, without leaving our region you can enjoy a charming getaway with your friends, in couple, or family. As always... it's up to you!
