GETAWAY TO VILLAVIEJA DEL LOZOYA AND ROBREGORDO
If you haven't decided yet what to do next weekend, we suggest you visit two places with charm, that are located in the north of the Region of Madrid in the Middle Valley of Lozoya, we are talking about Robregordo and Villavieja del Lozoya. You'll love them!
In the extreme north of the region is the Middle Valley of Lozoya that has a natural heritage worth seeing. Integrated in this area, are different populations with an interesting historical and artistic heritage that you should not miss.
Our first stop will be in Villavieja del Lozoya that, thanks to its location on the slopes of Carpetano Mountains allows us to enjoy excellent views. This population dates back to the period of repopulation of the Lands of Buitrago to which belonged around 1085. If you like the contact with nature, do not miss its cattle trails and the abundance of water through the Lozoya River and different streams proof that during the time of the repopulation had special relevance transhumance and livestock.
Taking advantage of the visit to the town, enjoy a pleasant stroll through the town centre where you will see samples of its artistic heritage through the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the 'corte del Berraco' or the Mudejar Arc found in Arco Street, now integrated in a guesthouse. It is worth mentioning Tercio de la Trinidad tower, which is the steeple of the medieval chapel of the Trinity, located in the direction of Buitrago.
Just over 20 kilometres separate this population of our next destination, Robregordo, which, with an origin that places it at the time of the Reconquista, it is believed that initially was a hostelry where travellers rested and later emerged inns, taverns and relays for horses.
This town has always been linked to Somosierra and its port, and was a strategic point between the north and south of Spain. Thanks to the trails, cattle trails and the abundance of water, it is an area that allows the practice of several outdoor activities.
You can stroll through the streets of the historic centre and admire the parish church of Santa Catalina, the old forge, the livestock crush, and the mill. In the vicinity don´t miss the 'Recreation Area El Plantio', an open-air space, meeting point for families wishing to spend a day in contact with nature.
