Weather in Madrid
The region of Madrid has designed an extensive Christmas program to enjoy the holidays with the family. Nativity scenes, carols, popular music or theater, read on!
Puerta del Sol is the emblematic space known for welcoming the new year. In addition to the traditional date of the Campanadas, the environment hosts other seasonal events for all audiences. Until January 9 you can visit the monumental Nativity Scene of the Real Casa de Correos. A total of 215 square meters contain the representation of four scenes so typical of these dates.
Also until January 9, the initiative "Bosque de los Deseos" allows visitors to leave their wishes for the New Year in writing, hanging their Christmas messages in a leafy garden with free entrance. And in the central Plaza de Pontejos, until December 23, different choirs will be singing Christmas carols in different passes to fill the public space of the capital with Christmas music.
Traditional music also comes to the Villas of Madrid. In the Plaza del Secreto in Nuevo Baztán, on the 18th, a recital of popular carols prepared by the Escuela de Músicas Populares Entresierras will be waiting for you. The group will share again its work of recovery of popular Christmas music on the 19th in the Plaza de la Villa de Rascafría. And in Villarejo de Salvanés, on the 18th, residents and visitors can enjoy the traditional music of Madrid during these holidays thanks to a recital by Arrabel group.
The castle of Manzanares El Real organizes Christmas workshops in which the whole family can design Christmas balls. Until January 9 ornaments will be designed to decorate the large tree installed in the courtyard of this historic fortress. And if you are in the mood for something different, the Lope de Vega House Museum is organizing the workshop "Verses and swords: fencing in the museum", in which the little ones will learn poetry, culture and sport with the best references to the Spanish Golden Age.
Those with a sweet tooth will be delighted with a gastronomic and cultural route through several convents in Madrid, known for their artisan production of traditional sweets. This route recommends you to visit places like the Corpus Christi monastery in Madrid, the convent of San Diego in Alcalá de Henares or the convent of Las Clarisas in the town of Valdemoro. You can taste the best traditional sweets while you discover these historic buildings still inhabited.
Do not miss details of the programming of theaters such as Teatros del Canal or the Teatro Auditorio San Lorenzo de El Escorial, with important seasonal events such as the great concert of the Choir of the region of Madrid in the latter space, on December 26.
