If you like to dive into history and culture, you can't miss the Cervantes Train, a dramatized journey that takes you from Madrid to Alcalá de Henares accompanied by the most illustrious characters of the Spanish Golden Age. Passengers on board!
Until next December 4 you can enjoy every Saturday this tourist train that connects the capital with the Cervantes' city, an original way to visit it. The trip is narrated by key figures in the history of Alcalá such as Isabel the Catholic, Francisco de Quevedo, Christopher Columbus and Cervantes himself, who will accompany passengers during the journey and during their stay in the city, the only city World Heritage Site in the region.
Upon arrival, passengers will have the opportunity to discover the place where Cervantes was born and take guided tours of key sites in Alcalá such as the Colegio Mayor de San Ildefonso, the church of Santa María, the squares of San Diego and Cervantes, the Archbishop's Palace, the Regional Archaeological Museum and the historic University.
Accompany María Isidra de Guzmán, "the doctor of Alcalá" and the rest of the characters through the streets of the city while you learn about its history and its great cultural past. The tour starts at Madrid's Atocha station from where the train departs to Alcalá station. You can enjoy a full day in the city of Cervantes and return to Madrid in the afternoon or, if you prefer, you can stay overnight and return the next day.
If you decide to spend the night in Alcalá, you will have access to its medieval walls and the interior of its towers, as well as other important centers of interest such as the Cervantes Birthplace Museum, the Alcalá Medieval Interpretation Center, the Complutum or the viewpoint of the tower of Santa María.
