The City Council of Villaviciosa de Odón and the Archive Management are pleased to offer guided tours to the Castle and the old town of Villaviciosa de Odón, which has been hiding secrets in its narrow streets for centuries. There are many things to discover in Villaviciosa de Odón!
This 15th century castle, built on large blocks of granite from the quarries of El Escorial, keeps a robust and impressive character.
The interior visits will take you through its rooms and gardens, while the guide will tell you about the most important events that took place there, such as the War of the Communities and the Comuneros in the 16th century (1521), or the marriage of Godoy to the Countess of Chinchón, in the 18th century.
After the one-hour guided tour, tourists will have the opportunity to see the architectural ensemble of the historic center, the Town Hall and the 17th century Casa-Palacio de Manuel Godoy. With two large towers and austere decoration, in 1800 it became part of the Countess of Chinchón and Godoy, the favorite of King Carlos IV.
This place has a pleasant surprise: a lush garden that can be accessed from the rear facade and another adjacent to the castle. The Castle Park and the Historical Garden, two green spaces where nature, culture and recreation come together.
In the building you will also find the collection of Maruja Diaz, which has 139 paintings by contemporary artists of the twentieth century as Manuel Ortega, Alfredo Palmero or Belén Elorrieta.
And finally, the Church of Santiago Apostle, from the early nineteenth century. The narrow streets in the surroundings will make you lose track of time until the end of the visit in the Plaza de la Constitución, the center of the bustle of the town and the life of its inhabitants.
The free guided tour of the Castle lasts two and a half hours on Thursday mornings. And on Tuesday mornings, the free guided tour of the old town. The groups are small, so it is essential to book in advance.
For its cultural and heritage richness, its natural environment and ecological wealth, festivals and traditions, gastronomic offer, routes and walks for nature lovers and sports, are some of the reasons to visit this ancient town frequented by illustrious characters.
