Archaeologists for a day 2021

If what you want is to live a different, exciting and family adventure, here comes the sixth edition of ''Archaeologists for a day'', to treat yourself to an unforgettable day with the youngest members of the family.

This free intergenerational learning activity for families has been organized by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage in collaboration with the City Councils of Alcalá de Henares and Hoyo de Manzanares. It will take place throughout the summer, between June 26 and September 26.

Adults and children from 8 to 14 years old will have a common purpose, they will collaborate in a complete archaeological process: locate the archaeological site, excavate it, treat the material found and send it to the museum. The activity will last three hours that will fly by while you have fun.

At the archaeological site of La Cabilda in Hoyo de Manzanares, next to the recreational area of the same name, participants will visit the site, be shown the work done by archaeologists, their tools and how they dig up the buried pieces.

Once the excavation has been carried out, parents and children will become the protagonists, as they will have to work with the sediment, label, document, photograph and even draw the remains that have been found. Finally, they will classify the remains.

La Cabilda is also a living site, as it is excavated every year. It is a rural village from the early medieval period, from the 6th and 7th centuries.

In Hoyo de Manzanares, from June 26 to July 25. And in Alcalá de Henares, from July 3 to September 26, at the Complutum site and the Casa de los Grifos. The forum and the monumental complex of the ancient Roman city of Alcalá, origin of today's Alcalá de Henares.

In order to participate, prior registration is required; no one who has not previously registered will be allowed to attend. Minors must be accompanied by at least one adult over 18 years old.
