PHotoESPAÑA 2021


This summer you will have the opportunity to attend a photography event that has become a world reference and one of the great events of the visual arts in the world. It is the XXIV edition of PHotoESPAÑA, the international festival of photography and visual arts. 


The main museums, galleries, art centers and exhibition halls in Madrid will open their doors from June 2 to September 30 to fill their halls with exhibitions and activities related to the festival.

The Círculo de Bellas Artes, the Maphre Foundation, the Lázaro Galdiano, Romanticism, ICO and Cerralbo museums, the Royal Botanical Garden, CentroCentro and Matadero Madrid, the Canal Isabel II and El Águila galleries, the Casa de América and Casa Árabe are some of the places that will be part of PHE.

The festival wants to focus this edition on current social issues. Thus, Pan-African photography will be presented and visibility will be given to the work of national and international women photographers. The environment and sustainability will also be important issues that will be reflected in the works on display. 

A total of 86 exhibitions will feature works by up to 376 national and international artists and photographers. 

The work of the great international female photographers will be exhibited at CentroCentro, one of the pioneers of photography, Margaret Watkins, and at the Museo del Romanticismo, one of the great figures in the history of photography, Bárbara Morgan. At Casa de América, two of the most current figures, Liza Ambrosio and Marlene Ribeiro.

The works and projects of leading Spanish artists Ouka Leele, Montserrat Soto, the National Photography Award winner Isabel Muñoz or the pioneer Lydia Anoz, will be shown at the Círculo de Bellas Artes, the Real Jardín Botánico, the Museo Lázaro Galdiano and the Real Sociedad de Fotografía respectively. 

As a novelty this edition presents a new permanent space of the festival in Madrid, PhotoEspaña Gallery, which will feature exhibitions, workshops and meetings. 

The Canal Foundation offers photo workshops every Saturday for you to learn how to master the camera and become a professional so you can enter the online photo contests that will be held during the festival, you choose: #LaCiudadSeMueve or #VisitSpain.

There will also be a workshop with renowned photographer Paco Gómez in which you will learn techniques for the revival of photographs, a round table in which they will talk about photography at the Casa Árabe, outdoor projections and even photographic routes such as the OFF Routes, which will take place on the island of Lanzarote, not in Madrid. 

Organized by the Community of Madrid and PHE, you can't miss the sixth edition of Foro PHotoESPAÑA, a physical and virtual space where you will meet photographers through exhibitions and meetings. 

If you are already a professional photographer, this event is also perfect for you. The festival offers professional programs such as PHE Discoveries where you will meet national and international experts. In addition, you can attend the PHotoESPAÑA Campus to continue your training or take the PHotoESPAÑA Master's Degree in Photography.

PHotoESPAÑA is a unique event and one of the great cultural events. PHE has organized more than 1,000 exhibitions attended by more than 700,000 people. This festival is an unmissable event that you can't miss!
