If you are looking for a weekend getaway to take advantage of the rising temperatures and get away from the routine, we propose a plan that will not leave you indifferent: two days discovering the wonders hidden in the Sierra Norte.
During the first day of your express trip we suggest two options, both in Somosierra. The first is to visit the Litueros Waterfall or Chorrera de los Litueros, one of the highest waterfalls of these peaks and one of the highest waterfalls in the Sierra de Madrid, or move to the Chorrera de San Mamés, an impressive 30-meter waterfall formed by the waterfall of the Chorro stream.
Regardless of your choice, the second day you can not miss Rascafría and be amazed by the Cascada del Purgatorio waterfall.
Not everything is nature. This getaway, besides offering sensational landscapes, also has a number of monuments linked to the Middle Ages as the church of Navarredonda and San Mamés and its Romanesque-Mudejar apse, -an architectural jewel-, or in Rascafría, from the fourteenth century, the Bridge of Forgiveness and the Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de El Paular, the beautiful monumental complex of the town.
On the first day, taking advantage of your visit to Somosierra, we recommend a visit to the High Wall of Buitrago, the only one in the whole region of Madrid that is still in perfect condition. During the second day, before starting your route to the Purgatorio Waterfall, enjoying the natural beauty of the Paular Valley, make a stop at the Monastery, declared of Cultural Interest since 1876.
For accommodation you should not worry, both villages have a wide range of hotels and cottages.
Enjoy alone, as a couple or with your family in this perfect trip for spring and live it in its purest form!
