Until December 31, visits to the Bodegas de Colmenar are back, one of those stops that are a must if you pass through Colmenar de Oreja. In addition to wineries, this is a town with plenty of beautiful places, both natural landscapes and buildings.
Strolling through its streets and corners, are essential places in your visit the historic set of its Plaza Mayor, magnificent Castilian arcaded square, and the thirteenth-century church of Santa Maria La Mayor, built by the knights of the Order of Santiago.
The Tourist Office of Colmenar de Oreja offers a wide variety of guided tours. Among all these offers, you can take a guided tour of the Diéguez Theater built over the old Hospital de La Caridad, or the Ulpiano Checa Museum, the painter born in the town, or take a tour of the town.
The visit to other places such as the Gardens, the Arch and fountain of Zalacatín; the Stone Museum to learn about its traditions; the Chapel of Cristo del Humilladero that houses the image of the patron saint of the town, and its two chapels from the XVI and XVII centuries; the Convent of the Encarnación del Divino Verbo, also from the XVII century, popularly known as 'the convent of the nuns', and the Gardens and Fountain of Los Huertos, among others.
Currently, the town has 8 wine cellars that have the Designation of Origin of Wines of Madrid, which offer various wine tourism activities.
The wineries of Colmenar already in its origins were worthy of countless awards and diplomas, such as those of the Wine Exhibition of Madrid in 1879 or the Universal Exhibition of Paris in 1890, highlighting at that time the winery of Francisco Cuellar, for its construction and breadth.
