Route by car Sierra Norte

Disconnect from the routine and forget the hustle and bustle of the city is not always easy in the capital. For this reason, the Community of Madrid has proposed a route by car to get to know the cultural and historical heritage of the Villas of the Sierra Norte de Madrid.

The itinerary promises two days of complete relaxation touring Patones, Torrelaguna, Buitrago de Lozoya and Rascafría. A great way to discover the alternative Madrid, while breathing a breath of fresh air.

The first stop is Patones, a place where nature and black slate architecture abound. A guided tour of the ancient Roman acropolis, Eras or the Lavadero and Fuente Nueva allows visitors to discover the praised local gastronomy and travel to a bygone era full of legends.

Culture lovers will find their place in Torrelaguna, a town that breathes history. Its streets have seen the passing of countless illustrious characters, such as Cardinal Cisneros, Juan de Mena or Santa María de la Cabeza. In turn, the municipality is also home to the Church of Santa Maria Magdalena, a reference of the Gothic style dating from the seventeenth century. The most curious can go to the Atalaya de Arrebatacapas and imagine themselves protecting medieval Toledo.

The route goes into the walls of Buitrago del Lozoya to enjoy its six Assets of Cultural Interest. The 800 meters of fortification offer five sections to know how medieval life was. Visitors can enjoy the Clock Tower, the Church of Santa María del Castillo or the Eugenio Arias collection in the Picasso Museum. A good way to finish the tour is in the impressive Castillo de los Mendoza, built in the fourteenth century.

The landscapes of Rascafría promise to leave you open-mouthed. There are places for all tastes, from the mountain resorts of Valcotos and Valdesquí to the 14th century Monastery of Santa María de El Paular. In turn, those daring visitors can cross the Bridge of Forgiveness, a place where criminals faced their sentence.

The Finnish Forest offers a setting out of a fairy tale where trees and the sounds of nature are the protagonists. The ideal place to say goodbye to the route, recharge your batteries and return to the city.
