The Madrid town of Manzanares El Real host the emblematic castle of the Mendoza family, one of the best preserved in the region. With the aim of making its history better known, don't miss the different activities on offer until June, which include themed visits, theatre performances and family workshops. We are waiting for you!
The Region of Madrid invites you to explore its region, and this week we travel to the town of Manzanares El Real to learn in a different way about the history of this unique fortress, located at the foot of La Pedriza, known as the 'Mendoza's Castle'.
Of course, you can always tour the castle in a free way, but on this occasion we suggest you do so through the activities scheduled until June, which will allow you to know it in depth in a different and enjoyable way.
On the one hand, from the castle they propose us to attend the thematic visits on Saturdays and the second Sunday of each month, as they will complete them in a detailed way, adding more information thanks to the proposed themes. Thus, among other things, you will discover its defensive systems, the origins of heraldry, its impressive collection of tapestries, or its secrets and curiosities.
On the other hand, thanks to the theatrical performances available until June 30, which will take place on Saturdays and Sundays in two stages, you will travel to the past accompanied by Brianda de Mendoza, a maiden who seeks to claim her rights as a woman, for which she will have to face her father Don Iñigo López de Mendoza. A unique story, that will reveal the contradictions of the transition from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance.
But you can also get to know the castle in depth while enjoying the environment, thanks to the two existing family workshops, aimed at families with children over 4 years old. On 26 January and 23 February, you will learn first-hand about some curious aspects of its architecture, and participate in the construction of towers, walls and battlements in 'Construyendo un castillo'. Looking ahead to spring, on 29 March, 26 April, 31 May, 6, 7 (World Environment Day) and 28 June will take place the workshop 'El medio ambiente en El Real de Manzanares' with which you will walk around the fortress to learn about the landscape through binoculars and ground telescopes, as well as its flora and fauna.
A unique experience... where do you want to start?
