Although the low temperatures seem that have come to stay, lovers of hiking, always find a good excuse to enjoy a day in touch with nature, breathing fresh air, and engraving in his retina the wonderful landscapes that find in their path. This week we go to La Pedriza, to explore the route through the pools of the Manzanares River, and learn a little more about the beauty of our region. Dress on warm clothes and comfortable footwear, because... let's get started!
In the town of Manzanares El Real, we find La Pedriza, an impressive granite formation, whose erosion has created curious shapes, which receive common names such as Canto Cochino, Yelmo, Pájaro, Foca, or Camello, among others.
Located in the Regional Park of the High Basin of Manzanares, this is one of the most beautiful areas of the region, and is included by UNESCO in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves. Although this walk may be more appealing in the summer, due to the freshness of the water we find in our path, this is also the ideal moment to enjoy a pleasant walk.
We recommend that you check the timetables for private vehicle access to La Pedriza, as it has changed since last October. In any case, once in the locality of Madrid, and after arriving at Canto Cochino, you will be able to access this wonderful enclave, and from there walk upstream along a small path that we will find parallel to Manzanares.
During our journey, we will be able to see various pools and even waterfalls that will take us to the well-known 'Charca Verde' (Green Pond), which owes its name to the effect produced by the pigmentation of the rocks on the bottom, together with the reflections on its waters.
We will continue walking and we will see other ponds of less size but whose beauty will captivate you. During the last part of the route, the extensive vegetation will not be missing until the birth of the river, where almost certainly, we will be able to see the first snows of the year.
After the improvised trip, you can always take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about the town of Manzanares El Real, an authentic journey to the Middle Ages thanks to its castle, the best preserved in the region, which surprises with dramatized visits to learn more about history in depth, by the hand with its protagonists.
