Very close to the capital, in the Madrid town of Alcalá de Henares, is located the archaeological site Complutum, the only Roman city in the region, which gives us the opportunity to learn about history in a different way, thanks to guided visits, family workshops, exhibitions, and of course, the well-known dramatized visits. Discover with us how to participate!
From the Region of Madrid, we encourage you to visit the Roman city of Complutum through the different activities that are programmed each season... A unique opportunity that you should not miss!
We continue with a classic: the well-known dramatized visits. On 21 and 2 September, and 5, 12, 19 and 26 October, Lucio Cornelio Quieto, real estate agent, will accompany us during the tour of the site. On Saturdays 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 November, we will enter the Hippolytus House with Saturn, where a mosaic dedicated to the marine world stands out.
On the other hand, children and young people between the ages of 6 and 14 will have a great time with the three workshops scheduled for the coming months: on the one hand, on 15 and 29 September the participants will be introduced to the most characteristic aspects of classical culture and its architecture with 'Roman Builders'; on the other hand, they will get to know one of the forms of leisure preferred by the Romans thanks to 'El teatro y los romanos', on Sundays 13 and 27 October, and 10 and 24 November in the Forum Regio II, and on Sundays 15 and 29 December in the House of Hippolytus. Finally, you will learn the techniques used in the sites with 'Archaeologists for a day', from 2 July to 29 September.
Completing this intense cultural activity, from 17 September until 8 March 2020, you can visit the exhibition 'Gentes en una ciudad romana' (People in a Roman City), where different explanatory panels will give a good account of how Roman society was, its groups and social types, with special attention to the complutense case.
