A walk through Colmenar

A WALK THROUGH COLMENAR

The heart of the town is formed by its Plaza Mayor, built over a ravine between 1676 and 1794, and the Church of Santa María la Mayor.

As a curiosity, do not miss the Zacatín tunnel, located under the square, as well as going down to the Fuente del Barranco, from the eighteenth century. You can not miss the beautiful views that dominate to the south from the gardens of Zacatín.

We have designed a geolocated itinerary, Colmenar Imprescindible, so that you can enjoy this town of Madrid at your own pace.

Start your visit in the Plaza Mayor, declared a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC) in the category of Historic Site, where time seems to have stopped with its emblematic buildings such as the Town Hall and the Casa del Pósito, you may recognize it as it has appeared in several films and television series.

You will be surprised to discover that it is built on a system of bridges and arches that rise over the Arroyo Zacatín. Behind it, you will find the Zacatín gardens, where you can visit the Arch of the Zacatín Bridge. Sit next to the Zacatín fountain, also called the Barranco and enjoy these peaceful gardens full of terraces that will take you back to the 16th century.

In a square adjacent to the Plaza Mayor called Plaza del Mercado, is the church of Santa Maria la Mayor, built in the thirteenth century and that does not go unnoticed by its imposing air of fortress. The presbytery is adorned with frescoes by Ulpiano Checa.

If you feel like taking a walk, you can visit the Ermita del Cristo del Humilladero. In this building is the image of the patron saint of the town. The hermitage is surrounded by a magnificent environment of gardens that invite you to walk and take a moment of rest.
