A charming walk

A movie-like main square, streets full of history, monuments... Follow us on this tour around the corners of Chinchón! We have also prepared a geolocated itinerary, "Chinchón Imprescindible".

Start your visit to Chinchón in the Plaza Mayor, the heart of the town since medieval times, and a good example of popular Castilian architecture where time seems to have stood still. This unique square has been used on numerous occasions as a film set.

From the Plaza Mayor you can see three buildings behind it: the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, the Lope de Vega Theater and the Clock Tower. Let's continue the tour visiting them.

Head first to the parish church of Nuestra Señora la Asunción, which houses a splendid canvas by Goya. The main altarpiece is worth a closer look. It continues with the Clock Tower. Its existence has given rise to a popular saying that Chinchón "has a church without a tower and a tower without a church". Chinchón is one of the towns with the greatest cultural activity in which the Lope de Vega Theater plays a fundamental role.

We continue the visit with the hermitage of San Antón, which preserves the primitive Romanesque apse of the eleventh century, in which Gothic paintings have recently been discovered.

The Parador de Turismo is an example of the living history of Chinchón. Going down the street of the Convent we find a very characteristic baroque style house, called the Casa de la Cadena.

On another corner of the town you will find the Tourist Interpretation Center, where you can immerse yourself in the history, culture and traditions of Chinchón. Nearby is the Convento de las Clarisas, and in the choir of his church the pantheon of the fifth Counts is preserved, made entirely of marble. Buy some sweets in the convent and share them with your family, they will be pleased!

If you want to learn more about the customs of Chinchón, visit the Ethnological Museum La Posada, which as its name suggests, is installed in an old inn of the nineteenth century.

Finally, to complete the tour you can go to see the Castle of the Counts
