Although it stands out for its leisure and commercial offer, we should not ignore its historical-artistic heritage. It is worth visiting the Polvoranca Park and the Sculpture Museum of Leganés.
It is worth mentioning the baroque church of San Salvador, built approximately between 1660 and 1700, which houses altarpieces by José Benito Churriguera. Other noteworthy buildings are the church of San Pedro Apóstol, in Polvoranca, from the 18th century, and the hermitages of San Nicasio, Nuestra Señora de Butarque and, the oldest of the three, that of the La Mora estate.
Since 1997, Leganés has had a multi-purpose hall, La Cubierta, which used to be a bullring and now also allows concerts, fairs, sports and other leisure and even fashion activities. Its roof is very special: it is actually two hemispheres, one fixed and the other mobile.
The Polvoranca Park covers a green area of 150 hectares that has become a natural educational reserve with more than 400 plant species and a great variety of animals, especially birds. The park is an ideal place to take a walk or enjoy activities in contact with nature, to get the most out of your visit we recommend that you consult the agenda of activities organized throughout the year by the Environmental Education Center of Polvoranca Park, which belongs to the Network of Environmental Education Centers of the region of Madrid.
The Sculpture Museum is one of the few sculpture museums not only in the region but also in the country. At present, its collection continues to grow thanks, in part, to the fruitful relationship with various museums with which it has established agreements to house and receive on deposit various works, such as sculptures from the former Spanish Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid. Among its most outstanding representatives are sculptors of the stature of Jorge Oteiza or Martín Chirino, while its works trace the development of Spanish sculpture from the end of the 19th century to the present day.
