Weather in Madrid
It is located 13 km southwest of Madrid and well connected by Metro, Renfe suburban trains and buses. Visit the Municipal Museum of Glass Art (MAVA), stroll through the Park of the Castles and enjoy a day of shopping in its malls.
The castles of the Marquises of Valderas are very representative of the town. Of Saxon neo-Gothic style, the main one was erected in 1917. In the largest (popularly known as Big Castle) is the Municipal Museum of Glass Art (MAVA). The collection consists of more than 100 works by 80 artists from around the world, the oldest of which is from 1977. The pieces collected in its rooms are an excellent example of the contemporary level of this art. The other restored castle serves as headquarters, one of them, the Popular University.
You can combine a visit to the MAVA with a walk through a park, such as the Parque de los Castillos, which also houses the Center for the Creation of the Arts of the city of Alcorcón CREAA, a space dedicated to new creators, or Polvoranca Park, which covers an area of about 150 hectares and has an Environmental Education Center.
It is also remarkable its parish church from the XVI to XVIII centuries, consecrated to Santa María la Blanca. It is also worthwhile to visit the historic center and spend some time or a day shopping in one of its malls.
The main festivities of the municipality are the patron saint festivities, about 300 years old, organized in honor of the Virgen de los Remedios at the beginning of each September, and those of San José de Valderas, between April 30 and May 2.
