The City Council of the capital in collaboration with the Region of Madrid combining their efforts so that the candidacy of the Prado-Retiro axis forms part of UNESCO's World Heritage list in the category of 'Landscape of Arts and Sciences'. We encourage you to explore this beautiful area, and even to share the photos you have taken on social networks.
The city of Madrid seeks to be included in the exclusive UNESCO World Heritage List, entitled 'El Paseo del Prado y el Buen Retiro. Paisaje de las Artes y las Ciencias' (The Paseo del Prado and the Buen Retiro, Landscape in Art and Science), a relatively recent category that belongs to the 'Places and Sites' classification of cultural goods.
The value of this landscape is supported by its wonderful evolution, since the Paseo del Prado and the Buen Retiro, are the result of several transformations that have united culture and nature in an urban environment, adapting to new times but without forgoing any of its essence.
The Paseo del Prado has been one of the first tree-lined promenades, in the surroundings of which are large cultural, scientific, political, economic and representative institutions of the city and the State that you will be able to get to know in depth exploring on your own or thanks to the existing guided visits until next October.
Next to him, an authentic lung that oxygenates the city: El Retiro. It is an old royal park through which several personalities have passed, with splendid gardens such as 'la rosaleda', 'El Reservado' or 'Cecilio Rodríguez' to mention a few, with fountains and ornamental statues and illustrious characters, which suggest pleasant walks at any time of year.
But in this 'axis', we also find other beautiful places worth visiting, such as the Royal Botanical Garden, the Garden of the Buenavista Palace, the tropical garden of Atocha, the vertical of CaixaForum. Not to mention the renowned museums that are housed here, which has led to know the area as 'Art Walk'. https://turismomadrid.es/es/ver-y-hacer/cultura/paseo-del-arte-y-los-museos.html
In short, this is one of the most beloved areas by both the people of Madrid and visitors, which now aspires to be recognized worldwide with the distinction of UNESCO, so as we anticipated, we encourage you to be part of the initiative of the Consistory to support the candidacy, uploading photos related to the Paseo del Prado and the Retiro to the official website, where you can also find all related information and discover many curiosities.
It will still be necessary to wait for the jury's decision, but until then, enjoy the beauty of the 'Paseo del Prado y el Buen Retiro, paisaje de las Artes y las Ciencias' (The Paseo del Prado and the Buen Retiro, Landscape in Art and Science).
