You can travel through the Region of Madrid on board a historic train. Discover the gastronomy of different localities, let be surprised by its historical heritage, soak up its history and above all, enjoy this unique experience with yours. Alcalá de Henares, Aranjuez, Arganda del Rey and San Lorenzo de El Escorial are waiting to surprise you. Feel like traveling? Come on, we're waiting for you!
Since last September, and after the summer break, this train has been running again until 9th December, which allows children and adults to travel Alcalá de Henares with two very special characters: Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. Discover this town, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, every Saturday through the Cervantes passages represented during the journey, the visit to the Cervantes Bithplace Museum, or its historical heritage.
Of course, there will be time to taste its gastronomy in the restaurants associated with the program, where you can benefit from a discount for traveling on this train, and if you want more you have the possibility to return the next day since the return ticket will be open, and visit for free the Roman City of Complutum and the Archaeological Site Casa de Hippolytus.
On Saturdays and Sundays until 29 October from the Príncipe Pio station, the well known 'Tren de la Fresa' (Strawberry Train) will depart to Aranjuez. The convoy made up of wooden cars called 'Costa', built between 1914 and 1930, a second-class passenger car belonging to one of the first series of metallic cars ordered by Renfe between 1947 and 1953, a wagon and a van from the 1960s originally destined for the Chief Train Manager, will travel the route inaugurated by the Queen Isabel II on 9 February 1851.
Once again, the program will allow you to choose between four routes with different prices, depending on the itinerary you want to make. In this link you will find all the information you need to choose and buy your ticket for this particular trip to the past.
We now travel to the town of Arganda del Rey to travel to the last century on board its 'train', which will run until December 17th. Enjoy wonderful landscapes during the 4 kilometres that separate the stations of La Poveda de Arganda and La Laguna del Campillo, in the middle of the Southeast Regional Park, a protected natural space.
The train, better known as 'train of Arganda, that whistle more that walks' due to its slowness, has been running since last spring with the steam locomotive 'ALIVA No. 4', showing the original splendour of when it was made in 1926. After the trip, don't miss the Museum of the Train, which houses signs, tools and costumes from the different periods of the Tajuña railway and other railways, as well as a collection of tickets.
Felipe II Train
Last but not least, don't miss the historical train of Felipe II, which invites you to visit the Royal Site of San Lorenzo de El Escorial and the Villa de El Escorial and discover its historical, artistic and even gastronomical heritage.
Get on board this train, made up of four passenger cars of the series 5000 and 6000, all of them from the forties, and a diesel locomotive of the series 321, which dates from the 1960s, and choose one of the options proposed depending on what you want to visit, or create your own trip. Everything is possible in this tourist initiative worthy of kings.
Passengers, please take your seats!
