Alcalá de Henares dresses up, to vibrate in a few days with the new edition of 'Clásicos en Alcalá', the Festival of Performing Arts of the Region of Madrid. From 13th June to 7th July, you will be able to enjoy this multidisciplinary event, thanks to the 54 shows programmed, eight of them absolute premieres. Don't let them tell you!
Alcalá de Henares warms its engines, because in a few days the 19th edition of the renowned Festival of Performing Arts of the Region of Madrid 'Clásicos en Alcalá́' will begin. A new opportunity to discover art in the broadest sense of the word, thanks to the programme that it's better every year, and which in this new edition has Darío Facal and Ernesto Arias at its head.
From 13 June to 7 July, various spaces and corners of the town such as the Corral de Comedias, the Patio Cervantes, the Patio de Santo Tomás de Villanueva (Universidad Cisneriana) or the Teatro Salón de Cervantes, will become the stage for the different artistic proposals programmed, which will include theatre, music, dance or poetry, among other disciplines.
The festival, which takes place every year during the summer period, surprises us on this occasion with eight absolute premieres: this is the case of 'Mercaderes de Babel' by José́ Padilla, a version of the Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare, the 'Juliet Manifesto', 'Lo nunca Tirso' or the inclusive show 'Entre clásicos anda el juego', to mention a few.
There will also be international shows such as the particular version of Tartufo by Molière, or the good work of the virtuoso duo of koto and classical guitar formed by Aki & Kuniko; as well as poetic evenings, a personal commitment of the festival in which will take part outstanding figures from the Spanish scene.
Music and dance will also form part of the bulk of the programme. On the one hand we will be able to enjoy the melodies of 'Románticas heroínas', by the Gala Operastudio of the Opera Workshop of the University of Alcalá́ (28th June) and 'Un palco en la ópera'; and on the other hand, Spanish dance and flamenco will be represented with 'Carmen de Mérimée', and the youngest audience will have a great time on the night of San Juan with the presence of different DJs.
The programme is completed by three workshops that will serve as a space for reflection and stage practice, as well as a film cycle with three films, whose main thread in the selection of the films has been the purpose of deepening the work of the actor, in how his work mixes with their lives and in the way in which classical texts have marked their paths.
Of course the little ones are also invited to this festival of art, because for them are some of the proposed shows such as children's theatre, street animations, performances and many surprises.
In order to reach all audiences, tickets will be cheaper and a large number of shows will be free and accessible to different capacities. So you know, from June 13th to July 7th, you have an appointment in Alcalá de Henares. We are waiting for you!
